Resurrection Sunday
4/17/22
Read Luke 24:1-9
It was a long week. So much happened so quickly. Yesterday was the Sabbath, and this morning, Sunday morning, was when some were going back to the tomb to finish preparing Jesus' body. But they found something odd, or perhaps I should say, they didn't find something--someone. Jesus was gone! Imagine all of the emotions running through their minds at what had happened. This week had been hard enough on all of them. Now someone had stolen all they had left of their teacher, friend, and Messiah. How would you feel at that moment? But then appeared two angels that informed them they were looking for Jesus in the wrong place… people who are alive don't usually hang out inside tombs…
One of the angels then reminded them of Jesus' words in verse 7, that Jesus would rise on the third day. (There are several times Jesus made this claim-- Luke 9:22, 44; Matthew 17:22-23; Mark 9:30-31). He called them to remember Jesus' words. Remember. Jesus is a keeper of His word. Death is so final. Even in fairy tales wishing for someone to come back from the dead and wishing for true love are some of the only things that cannot be wished for. But Jesus' physical resurrection proved, among other things, that He was Lord over life and death and a keeper of His promises! If He could overcome death, there is nothing He cannot accomplish, and no guarantee He won't keep.
Is there anything in your life in which you are having trouble trusting God? What about in His Word? Maybe you are struggling with something today, like trusting in God's promises. The most challenging promise to keep was that He would be coming back from death, and He did it! What is it from His Word that you are having a hard time with? Are you having trouble following through with a command from Scripture because you simply don't trust Him? Take it to God. He is the God who has overcome death. He can handle what's going on in your life. Spend some time talking to Him about where you need to trust Him more. It's okay to be honest, and open with Him; He knows it all anyway. Ask Him to constantly remind you of His faithfulness in keeping all of His promises and to remind you of the sign that He keeps them all--His resurrection.
